Dialogues/What Passes Between -exhibition opening at Viimsi

Today, the exhibition we have done together with Matti Vainio opens at the Viimsi Kunstikool gallery in Estonia.

The exhibition continues our collaborative work and focuses on drawing at a very existential level, examining how a line forms and when it becomes part of something that might then affect the way the line forms. When does something become something else? In particular, when does a drawn line start to represent something figurative, emotional or logical? Is there a way for the line not do that? If yes, what happens then?

These old (modernist?) questions intrigue us. For me, it shows one aspect of art, namely how art can surface things that cannot be spoken, put into words, - or expressed through AI prompts.

In this exhibition, beer reveals itself as an artistic material. Paintings on canvas are created with beer itself – stout, saison, pilsner, IPA, and Kveik each take shape as their own unique material and landscape.

The exhibition is also a process: during its course, new beer paintings will be created in front of the audience. Visitors are invited to witness the making of these works and to discuss the meanings carried by different beers.
