Discussions with the machine

January 12, 2017 by Tomi Slotte Dufva

I am having an exhibition together with Matti Vainio at TM-gallery in Helsinki, Finland. The theme of the exhibition is the discourse between human and technology.  We want to examine and question that relationship between through drawing.

French philosopher Bernard Stiegler has called technology as a pharmacon: a drug that at the same times saves and destroys (by addiction, misuses, overuse, etc.). As technology, especially digital technology becomes ubiquitous the importance of how we live with the technology increases. The exhibition wants to evoke questions, demystify technology and see over the most common dichotomies and characterizations of this relationship.

Matti also had two drawing performances together with a drawbot I had made, here is a short video of it. (The actual performance was 7 hours.)
